INDIANAPOLIS — A Shelbyville police officer is being credited for his "heroic actions" after a fiery February crash on Interstate 74.

Ofc. Devin Moore was on his way to an off-duty assignment at a local school when he came across the crash along I-74 westbound near the 121 mile-marker. That's about seven miles southeast of Shelbyville.

The SUV had gone off the road, hit a tree and caught fire.

Moore was able to help get the two people to safety, including the driver who was trapped in the car as it was burning.

The passenger in the car was pronounced dead at the scene, and the driver was transported to Eskenazi Hospital in Indianapolis, the Shelby County Sheriff's Office said. The severity of the driver's injuries was not released.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
