NOBLESVILLE (WTHR) - A home where women can overcome substance use disorder is set to open in Hamilton County.
The Transformations Center for Healing is a long-term residential treatment and recovery facility for women. The former parsonage along Sheridan Road is being transformed into a stylish center for healing thanks to dozens of local contractors, suppliers and designers who provided free supplies and services through the Design for a Difference program. Brownsburg based Interior Designer Deanna Whetstone believes a stylish space will show the women they are valued.
"This is a movement, 300 projects for non-profits nationwide to date. We have found when you come in and make the interior beautiful and function properly it is exponential the changes it can make in peoples lives and the the way they feel about themselves." Whetstone said.
Converting the ranch-style home is the culmination of years of work for Transformations founder Laci Giboney. She is in recovery and know the challenges she faced. "I have 11 years in recovery from a heroin addiction that lasted about four years that nearly took my life. When I got sober and just really turned my life over to God. He directed me and spoke over my life to open this recovery center."
During her addiction Giboney says she was homeless and slept on park benches. Eventually she was arrested, convicted and served two and half years in prison. When released, Giboney became a licensed social worker, got married and became a mother. Now, she is focused on providing care that was lacking during her journey. "Hamilton county is currently ranked 9th out of our state for the 92 counties for heroin and opioid overdose" Gaboney said. "I think that one of the things that is missing is just the opportunity to go to a long term facility and heal. I tried rehab several times that seven, fourteen and thirty days rehabs. But because it takes over every area of your life, you need a year of treatment."
The Transformations Center for Healing has bunk beds with colorful new linens and an updated kitchen with new appliances. The former garage houses wellness workout space with a sauna and exercise equipment. The basement is bright, light and future home for individual, group and art therapies.
"It's really super fun to watch how what we kind of see as fluff and stuff become something very real and a part of the whole healing" Whetstone said.
Giboney says the response to her vision of a Christ-centered, holistic long-term residential recovery center for women with substance use disorder has been overwhelming.
"I never really expected for anybody to jump on board with me. Everyone had like this piece of the puzzle to make transformations happen and everyone played their role and it's come together so amazing so wonderful and I'm just so grateful" Gaboney said.
The community is invited to an Open House Celebration on Saturday, April 29th from 2:30 to 4 p.m. at 2200 Sheridan Road, Noblesville. Attendees are welcome to tour the facility, have refreshments and join in prayer and worship.
The center officially opens May 1.
