Rally held at Indiana Statehouse to bring awareness to low-wage voters and poverty

The rally was organized by the Indiana Poor People's Campaign.

INDIANAPOLIS — While state lawmakers are on a weekend break, dozens of people marched around the Statehouse to bring awareness to low-wage voters and poverty in the state.

"It's all about people, if you can't put yourself in other people's shoes, they why are you here?" said Doris Jones.

Jones wears those shoes every day, she's experienced homelessness and had to find extra jobs to support her family.

That's why she joined the Indiana Poor People's Campaign's march around the statehouse.

"All of us did not choose to be in this position, we all want the best for our kids, we all want the best for our next future," Jones said.

A future, everyone there is pushing for now.

"Everyone is important, everyone is precious in this world and no one needs to be stressed day to day to worry about basic needs," said Valerie McCray.
