Pool fever: Hoosiers determined to enjoy summer in the water

INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) — Hoosiers love their pools and as summer approaches, they find any way to enjoy the cool water.

Addison Knowles from Sullivan doesn't have a pool but she does have a storage container. She told 13news that if you want to get an in-ground or above-ground pool you will have to wait until at least September.

All this brings back memories for Nichole Hughes of her father who decided just to use a livestock tank when things got a little hot back in the '90s.

Amy Headdy from Ellettsville went to four different stores looking for a wading pool when she stopped a Menards and struck water.

"They have been doing this for an hour," she said. "Versus doing the sprinkler for 15 to 20 minutes. I realize it does not matter what size the pool is. As long as they have a body of water to play in they are content. The best $10 that I have ever spent."

"I love it so much. I am a water doggy," 8-year-old Sophia said. Her parents bought an above ground pool a year ago and actually thought about getting rid of it at one time.

"We had to patch it twice,” Sophia's mom, Heather Henry, said.

But now they are glad they did keep it. Sophia thoroughly enjoys her daily outing to the backyard pool.

“This time is affecting our children — with the home schooling that was challenging. Also I noticed her (Sophia) swaying toward tech. She loves gaming and Mindcraft," Henry added. "I wanted to make sure she was spending time outside getting exercise and staying mentally healthy and physically healthy as well."

And the best part is no waiting.
