Police calling the disappearance of 8-month-old a 'homicide investigation'

IMPD detectives called a press conference Saturday asking for help in their investigation of missing 8-month-old Amiah Robertson.

INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) — IMPD detectives called a press conference Saturday asking for help in their investigation of missing 8-month-old Amiah Robertson.

IMPD Police Chief Bryan Roach said they are now calling the investigation of missing 8-month-old Amiah Robertson a "homicide investigation."

Police say Robertson was last seen March 9 in the care of Robert Lyons, Amiah’s mother’s boyfriend.

Officers say Lyons is a suspect in the case and want to know more about his activities on the day of Amiah's disappearance.

Lyons was last seen in a 1996 maroon Isuzu Rodeo in the area of Rockville Road and Mickley Avenue.

"It's an area I know he was there on March 9," said Detective Jean Burkert. "I'm not sure what he was doing and that is why I am asking for help why he was in that area."

Police also confirmed items found near the White River belonged to Amiah. They searched the area but there was no sign of the child.

Officers acknowledge there are limited possibilities of what could have happened to Amiah since it has been two weeks since her disappearance.

"I think that we all hope for the best — always — but I think that we can't ignore the reality of the situation," said Lt. Bruce Smith. "Amiah cannot take care of herself and absent somebody else who is currently taking care of her that hasn't come forward, we are very concerned about what happened to her."

Anyone who has information on the case is asked to call Crime Stoppers 317-262-TIPS.
