INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - Hilton is launching a new line of hotels, and Indianapolis is one of its inaugural locations.

The new brand, Signia Hilton, will focus on meetings and events, targeting "meeting professionals and sophisticated business travelers."

Indianapolis will be one of three starting locations, along with Orlando and Atlanta.

Each Signia location will also have at least 500 guest rooms that take inspiration from the host city, a destination bar, signature restaurant and premium wellness esperiences like infinity pools, spas and fitness centers.

Indianapolis' location will stand 38 stories tall with 814 rooms.

We got a preview of this announcement in October, when the city's Capital Improvement Board, which oversees several city venues, voted to pursue the project with Indianapolis-based Kite Realty.

It will be based in the Pan-Am Plaza site. The $120 million expansion of the Indiana Convention Center includes a second Hilton-brand hotel with 600 rooms designed more to "complement nearby historic architecture but with a modern design."

The entire project is slated to be completed in late 2022. That, along with other hotel developments, will bring the total number of rooms within walking distance of the convention center to more than 10,000.

This process started last January when city leaders decided to pursue a new convention center hotel and 50,000-square-foot ballroom. Visit Indy Senior Vice President Chris Gahl said at the time the decision was the result of a two-year-long study looking at convention and tourism needs when it comes to retaining and drawing new business.
