From the northern point to the southern tip, Emmy award-winning reporter Matt McCutcheon has spent his career covering Indiana news and now continues that tradition in the state's core.

It's a career the Hoosier native has dreamed of since his childhood when he would run around the house with a tape recorder and interview his parents. It ignited a passion for storytelling at a young age.

The east-central Indiana native learned the ropes of the television business at Connersville High School where he handled a variety of roles for the school's live student-produced newscast.

After high school, Matt headed to Franklin College and became active with internships at half a dozen radio and TV stations around the Midwest which included a tour of duty at Channel 13!

Immediately after college, Matt headed north to Fort Wayne where he reported and anchored at WANE-TV. He extensively covered Indiana's historic 2008 election which included two interviews with President Barack Obama on the campaign trail.

Matt headed south in 2010 and covered a variety of southern Indiana stories during his time in Louisville. In addition to covering the Kentucky Derby, he heavily covered David Camm's third murder trial in Lebanon for WLKY-TV with his reports from Boone County featured nationally on 48 Hours.

During the record-breaking winter of 2013 Matt got the call to come home to WTHR-TV and is elated to be able to move full circle at the station he watched as a child and to be just minutes away from family and friends.

As a native Hoosier, he's able to offer a unique perspective to his special reports, which include a tour of the abandoned Richmond hospitala look back at L. S. Ayres and remembering Ryan White.

While the early hours can be a challenge, Matt loves reporting for Eyewitness News Sunrise where he covers breaking overnight news and fun, lighthearted stories. In case you’re wondering, his alarm clock goes off at 2 o’clock, with a few taps of the snooze button.

Away from work and after a nap, you'll find Matt exploring the city and restaurants as well as volunteering for organizations and speaking at events.

Always searching for story ideas, Matt welcomes your e-mails at mmccutcheon@wthr.com.
