MARTINSVILLE (WTHR) — The Martinsville police chief will go on trial in November.

Chief Matt Long is accused of theft and official misconduct.

In February, a state board of accounts investigation accused Long of paying himself thousands of dollars for overtime and sick leave that wasn't earned. The alleged crimes began in 2016.

The chief has been on a paid administrative leave since the investigation began last month.

A conviction could cost Long his career, put him in prison and require him to reimburse the city and the state for it's special investigation.
