Local dance team amazes judges on "World of Dance"

An Indianapolis dance group made the most of their moment in the spotlight on NBC's "World of Dance" competition.

INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) — An Indianapolis dance group made the most of their moment in the spotlight on NBC's "World of Dance" competition.

Eight dancers from Expressenz Dance Center are showing off their skills to judges Jennifer Lopez, Ne-Yo and Derek Hough.

On Tuesday's episode, the dancers performed a contemporary dance with precise technique and a ballet influence.

16-year-old Maya Palmer is one of the dance members. She's been dancing for 10 years and said being on "World of Dance" is quite an accomplishment.

"We hope when they see us dance that they'll see all of the hard work and dedication that we put in and even though we are from Indiana and we're small town girls we still take dance seriously, and we want to make it in the dance world," Palmer said.

The young women said friends and family have been really supportive of their audition for the show.

And we haven't seen the end of these girls. They scored an 87.0 from the judges and are moving on to the next round.

"World of Dance" airs Tuesdays at 10 p.m. on Channel 13.
