Lebanon - Three men were arrested after a jewelry store robbery led to a police chase early Sunday in Boone County.

The robbery happened just after 1 a.m. at Cox Jewelry & Repair in the 1600 block of North Lebanon Street. Workers spent Sunday replacing glass in the store.

Police say they were on the scene within a minute of the early morning alarm. The front door and one of the jewelry cases were smashed and merchandise was missing.

"The first officer here had just ben by the business before and had seen a vehicle leaving this area," said Lebanon Police Lt. Brent Wheat. "It wasn't suspicious enough to stop, but he made a mental note of it. So the second he found out the business had been broken into, he relayed that information to the other officers and they began looking for this vehicle."

About 20 minutes later, a patrol officer on the south side of town spotted the vehicle.

"He tried to stop it and the chase was on," Lt. Wheat said.

Police say the pursuit lasted more than 10 minutes and wound them through the rural parts of Lebanon. Eventually, the getaway car started to break down, making it easier for the pursuing officers to catch up.

"Apparently, at some point, he basically blew up the engine or the transmission. When, finally, he was running just a few miles an hour when he bailed out of the car and took off, leaving his friends in the car and he was apprehended after a short foot pursuit," Lt. Wheat said.

After a short scuffle, police arrested the driver, 19-year-old Daniel Earl Wynn III, and both passengers, Joshua Zachary and Derek Wayne Herrmann, both 20. All three men from Lebanon are facing numerous felony charges.

Police recovered the stolen jewelry inside the car.
