Former U.S. Attorney Joe Hogsett announced Thursday the filing of his mayoral campaign committee, Hogsett for Indianapolis.

The exploratory committee will allow Hogsett the opportunity to meet with civic and neighborhood leaders to discuss the struggles of families in Indianapolis.

"The challenges we face are clear — one-third of children in Indianapolis live in poverty, too many of our schools continue to underperform, and it is harder than ever for middle-class families to find work in the city they call home," Hogsett said. "In the coming weeks, I am looking forward to getting out into our neighborhoods and listening to ideas on how we can make this a safer city to live and raise a family in."

Hogsett served for four years as United States Attorney for the Southern District of Indiana.

He successfully launched the office's first Public Corruption Working Group, a Civil Rights Task Force, as well as a groundbreaking Violent Crime Initiative focused on punishing illegally-armed felons.

Under Hogsett, the U.S. Attorney's Office broke all-time records for the number of defendants charged, the number of criminal convictions, and the average length of sentences imposed. The office also reduced total spending every year of Hogsett's tenure.

Joe Hogsett and his wife Stephanie have three children. In addition to his career of public service, Hogsett has more than twenty years of experience in the private practice of law.
