FIRST FRIDAY OPENING - June 1, 2007

"The Adventures of Filthy Fluno" -- work by Jeffrey Lipsky of Boston, Mass. Music that night by Normanoak, Lord Fyre, Adam Kuhn and the Cold Hearts and Kory Quinn. 6 p.m. to midnight.

Virtual worlds have gone from recreational pastimes to real-life emerging markets, so much so that the IRS is considering new regulations for commercial transactions taking place on sites like online virtual reality community Second Life. While MySpace has demonstrated its ability to serve as a legitimate portal for do-it-yourself musicians, where can fine artists find similar networking opportunities on line? Internationally known and Boston-based artist Jeffrey Lipsky, aka Filthy Fluno, uses Second Life to connect with a worldwide audience of art enthusiasts and patrons.

ALSO: Lipsky will also lead a talk about art in the virtual world at 1 p.m. on Saturday June 2 at Big Car. The Saturday talk will be about how artists can use SL to connect to art enthusiasts, galleries, customers, and other artists from around the world. SL allows artists to discuss their art in realtime and within a visually rich world. Based on his successes and that of others, Lipskey will give a tour through SL and hopefully do a live demo how artits can upload their art into SL and get involved.

Never heard of Second Life? Then read this article. Or go right to Second Life here.

Lipsky will exhibit charcoal and pastel drawings inspired by the adventures of his avatar, Filthy Fluno in virtual reality. The show entitled "The Adventures of Filthy Fluno" is also on an international tour with stops in Portugal, Paris, and then back to Lexington, MA.
