IU Health announced changes at the top Tuesday.

CEO and President Dan Evans will retire from his position as president effective immediately and will retain the CEO position until May 2016. Evans has been with IU Health for 13 years.

Dennis Murphy, who has served as COO for the last two years, will take over the president's role effective Tuesday and the CEO role in May. Murphy came to Indianapolis from Chicago, where he was COO and executive vice president of Northwestern Memorial HealthCare. He also had a ten-year stint with Johns Hopkins. He is a Notre Dame graduate.

"I'd like to say thank you to the board of trustees of IU Health for their trust in me. I view this role as being a steward of a tremendous organization. The precursor organizations have been here for hundreds of years and our job as leaders is to ensure that they'll be here for the next hundred years and they'll be just as successful and to do all those things that Dan said in terms of the care and treatment of patients that come to us in their time of need," said Murphy.

Evans came to IU Health at a time of massive expansion in downtown Indianapolis and also the Affordable Care Act. After telling the board of his plans to retire, Evans said he went golfing in Canada and shot a hole in one - something he considers a good sign.
