The Indianapolis 500 Race and related festivities leading up to this annual worldwide motorsports event will shift local traffic into high gear, detouring and/or delaying IndyGo bus routes.

Then, in observance of Memorial Day, Monday, May 28, IndyGo local fixed route bus service will operate on a Sunday schedule for the holiday.

Pre-Race Day

From Wednesday, May 23 until Saturday, May 26, the race-related events at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway could, depending on traffic and street access, put the following west side routes on detour during peak travel times: Routes 3, 15, 25, 30 and 38.

UPDATED downtown stop information - IPL 500 Festival Parade - Saturday, May 26

The IPL 500 Festival Parade on Saturday, May 26 will affect all fixed routes in the downtown Indianapolis area, resulting in the following bus stop closures:

· Meridian Street from 30th Street to Ohio Street

· Pennsylvania Street from 16th Street to Ohio Street

· Restrictions along parts of Illinois Street

Starting as early as 6:00 a.m., street closures will be in place to allow for set-up. During the parade, riders should use the following stops for downtown pickups, drop offs and transfers for fixed route service.

The stops on Ohio St. between Illinois St. and Delaware St. will be closed. Passengers can board coaches on all other stops in the downtown area. The following stops will remain open:

· Capitol and Market

· Maryland and Pennsylvania

· Delaware and Washington

· Delaware and Market

· Capitol and Ohio

· Ohio and Capitol (both sides)

Information is subject to change; IndyGo road supervisors in the downtown area will be available to provide detour information to passengers. They will also monitor the parade and traffic, making any necessary detour adjustments. Detours are planned to last through 5:00 p.m.

The Green Line downtown/airport express will not serve the following stops:

· Ohio/Illinois Streets

· Ohio/Pennsylvania Streets

· Washington/Meridian Streets

· Washington/Illinois Streets

Green Line passengers who would normally board and alight at these locations should use Illinois St./Market St. and Illinois St./Jackson Pl.

Race Day - Sunday, May 27

IndyGo does not offer local fixed route or shuttle service to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on race day. Additionally, IndyGo Routes 3, 5, 10, 15 and 37 will be on detour. Route 38, servicing west 38th Street, will only go on detour in the event of heavy traffic and/or street blockage. Prepare for the following bus stops to be closed on Race Day:

· Route 3: All stops on Michigan Street (west of Michigan Plaza).

· Route 5: All stops on 29th and 30th Streets (west of Clifton Street).

· Route 10: All stops on 10th Street (west of Wishard Hospital).

· Route 15: All stops on 30th Street (west of Riverside Park).

· Route 25: Does not operate on Sundays.

· Route 37: All stops on Michigan Street, New York Street, White River Parkway and Lafayette Road (to 38th Street).

Memorial Day - Monday, May 28

In observance of Memorial Day, IndyGo operations will use a modified schedule:

· Local Fixed Route Service: Operating on a Sunday schedule

· Green Line Downtown/Airport Express: Operating on a regular schedule

· Open Door Paratransit Service: Operating on a Sunday schedule

· Customer Service Call Center: Closed

· Customer Service Retail Center: Closed

· Administrative Office: Closed

If a route does not offer Sunday service, then no service will be available on that route on Memorial Day.

As with all special events that disrupt normal traffic flow, passengers should plan ahead and allow plenty of time for travel to their destinations. As the race progresses, some bus service may be resumed if streets are re-opened.

Street closures will impact on-time performance for scheduled bus service, so IndyGo reminds passengers that selecting an earlier scheduled bus trip is advisable. IndyGo Customer Service is available by phone at 317.635.3344 Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays, 9 a.m. to noon. Trip planning tools and service updates available online.
