A year after it malfunctioned and trapped riders for a couple of hours, the Indianapolis Zoo will reopen its Skyline ride.
The elevated ride around the orangutan exhibit has been closed since July of last year when a mechanical problem caused it to stop. Firefighters had to rescue eight people from the gondolas. It was the third time the ride malfunctioned.
Zoo officials assured the public Friday that the ride has been fixed and is safe.
"Since we closed the ride 11 months ago, we've taken the time to do a really thorough review of the operating systems and that's been our in-house specialists, the manufacturer of the ride and we've also hired a consulting firm that has come in and worked closely with us, so the three entities have all worked together really closely to maximize the efficiency and reliability of the ride," said Rob Shumaker, Executive Vice President and Zoo
The plan is to reopen the Skyline on July 1st for the busy holiday weekend.
