Police: Bloomington man crashes into car in driveway, gets shot, then arrested after chase

A Bloomington man is facing attempted murder and other charges after a crash and shooting in Vigo County late Saturday.

VIGO COUNTY, Ind. — A 35-year-old Bloomington man is facing attempted murder and other preliminary charges after a crash and shooting in Vigo County Saturday night.

Video from a Ring security camera shows a man pulling into his driveway on Candlewood Circle, south of Terre Haute, around 10 p.m. April 20. The man told police a vehicle had been following him and his female passenger for an unknown reason. When the man got out of his car, the video shows a red truck crashing into the man's vehicle at a high rate of speed.

The victim told police when he was struck by the suspect's truck, he fired a gun at the suspect.

The suspect reportedly fled the scene on foot. Sheriff's deputies later learned the suspect stole a nearby vehicle and drove away from officers.

Deputies and Indiana State Police troopers later saw the stolen vehicle and began pursuit of the suspect. The pursuit ended in Sullivan County, where the suspect was taken into custody.

The suspect was taken to the hospital to be treated for his injuries, which included gunshot wounds. He was preliminarily charged with attempted murder, criminal recklessness, resisting law enforcement and auto theft.

(NOTE: 13News does not name suspects until charges are filed by prosecutors.)

The victim was taken to the hospital to be treated for leg injuries, the Vigo County Sheriff's Office said. His passenger was also taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Police do not believe the suspect and victims knew one another, but say their investigation is ongoing.
