Indianapolis - Friday marked the grand opening of the second IMAX theater in Indianapolis. The first showing ran on the giant screen at midnight, selling out with 350 people. Another crowd showed up again at 9:30 Friday morning for the second showing of Spider Man 3.

Eyewitness News Reporter Lynsay Clutter has all the excitement from Kerasotes ShowPlace 16 on the southside.

It was early in the morning for a movie, but more than 170 people say setting the alarm was worth it.

"The midnight showing sold out and I just couldn't stand not knowing what happened, and I spent all year building up for the movie," said Matt Loman, who waited patiently at the Kerasotes ShowPlace 16 on the south side.

The movie is the highly anticipated Spiderman 3, now showing on the new IMAX theater on the south side.

"The film is 10 times larger than regular film so the resolution is incredible," said Helene Bushnell, Kersotes ShowPlace 16.

Kerasotes Show Place 16 is "thinking big" with a screen 70 feet wide and 44 feet high that's expected to boost business.

"It's going to bring a lot more people through the door," said Bushnell.

"Look at that screen - it's huge," said Baron Hall. "I've never been to an IMAX before I want to see what the big screen looks like."

The IMAX on the south side is the second one to open in the Indianapolis area with a third slated to open on the north side. The question is: can all three IMAX theaters survive in the metro area?

"We're going to be working together with the IMAX downtown. Because they are associated with the museum, they are going to show more educational - the classic IMAX films, like deep Sea 3D, Space Station, things like that. And we'll get more of the DMR, Digitally re-mastered Hollywood products: Spider Man, Harry Potter," said Bushnell.

"Pirates of the Caribbean, Shrek 3 and all those are coming out so it will be good for people who do like movies. You don't have to wait three weeks and come back and see it on IMAX," said Seth Hall.

Spider Man 3 will run until Harry Potter comes out in July.

Friday Showtimes for Spiderman 3 on IMAX: 12:30/3:50/7:10/10:30. Evening showings are sold out for Friday. But come early to get your seat, and take part in fun activities including an indoor rock climbing wall, face painting, and a tarantula exhibit.

Grand opening ceremonies are on tap from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm Friday at the theater, located at 4325 S. Meridian St., Indianapolis.

Cost of admission to watch Hollywood movies on the IMAX screen is $12.50, with reduced rates of $10 for children ages 3 to 12 and $11.25 for those 60 and older. Admission prices are lower for educational features and other more traditional IMAX films, running 45 minutes or less in length. Those prices are $10 for most adults and $7.50 for children and those 60 and older.
