TERRE HAUTE - Hundreds of police officers from around the country have joined several Indiana officials at the funeral for slain Terre Haute Officer Brent Long.

It took more than an hour for the officers and others to pass by Long's flag-draped casket before Monday's service started at Indiana State University's Hulman Center.

Long and his police dog partner, Shadow, both were shot a week ago as a team of officers served an arrest warrant at a Terre Haute apartment. Shadow was released from a veterinary hospital on Thursday and dozens of police dogs and their handlers marched into the arena for Long's funeral.

Dignitaries at the funeral include Lt. Gov. Becky Skillman and Congressman Larry Bucshon.

Jasper police Sgt. Jeff Carie tells the Tribune-Star that the Terre Haute community's support has been impressive and that it renews his commitment.

Authorities say the gunman who shot Long died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
