Rare duck from Arctic found, saved by girl in Greenfield

The girl found the duck walking in the middle of her neighborhood street and named her Rosealini.

GREENFIELD, Ind. — It's not everyday you find a rare duck from the Arctic walking through the streets of central Indiana, but that's exactly what happened for a little girl in Greenfield.

The Hancock Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation took in a 1-pound long-tailed duck. The sea duck is typically found in the Arctic and northern coastal regions, according to the rescue and rehabilitation organization.

A girl found a long-tailed duck, which is usually found in the Arctic region, in the middle of the road in Greenfield.

The shelter said Rosealini had no wounds on her when they took her into their loving care and are hoping she can go home soon.

"We're hoping that she'll feel better by next week, and maybe she can hitch a ride with Santa back to the North Pole," the organization said.

These types of ducks spend most of their time in northern waters on ocean coasts and dive 200 feet deep to get their food, according to All About Birds.
