FISHERS, Ind. — Fishers Fire Chief Steve Orusa will retire later this year after more than a dozen years in the position.

In a statement posted on the fire department's Facebook page, Fishers Mayor Scott Fadness said Orusa informed him he would be retiring this year and committed to remaining in the position until a transition could be completed at some point late in the fall.

"While I couldn’t be happier for this next chapter in his life or more grateful for his service to our city, I would be remiss if I didn’t acknowledge that Chief Orusa’s leadership and vision for building the industry-leading Department we have today will be missed," Fadness said in the statement.

Orusa served as deputy fire chief of operations for a year and a half before being named fire chief in June 2011. Prior to joining the department, Orusa served as deputy fire chief with the City of Waukegan, Illinois for almost nine years.

"My administration will work diligently and methodically to recruit the very best leadership team to lead this department into its next chapter of service to our community," Fadness said.
