Danville police officer arrested

Lebanon - A Danville police officer was arrested early Saturday morning after the Boone County Sheriff's communications center received calls about erratic driving of a Danville Police car in Lebanon.

It all started around 2:20 a.m. Saturday when callers stated that the police car turned into the Flying J parking lot on State Road 39. A Lebanon officer having supper noticed the vehicle in the parking lot and saw it leave going south bound on State Road 39.

Boone County sheriff deputy Sgt. Dale Kenworthy headed south on State Road 39 and found the vehicle stopped in the middle of the roadway, with no lights on. Kenworthy activated his emergency lights for a traffic stop and pulled behind the stopped Danville Police car.

The Danville Police car lights were turned on and the car headed south on State Road 39. The Boone County sheriff deputy followed the police car and Sgt. Kenworthy reported the vehicle crossing the centerline and leaving the right side of the road.

Sgt. Kenworthy followed with emergency lights on for approximately five miles, before the Danville Police car stopped.

The driver of the car was identified as 37-year-old Robert Cole. He identified himself as a sergeant with the Danville Police Department.

Sgt. Kenworthy conducted a field sobriety test, and advised Cole about his rights concerning Operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

The Danville officer was transported to the Boone County jail where he was given a breath test that showed he tested at 0.18. 

Robert Cole is eligible for bond release on Saturday afternoon. 

Danville Police representatives were contacted and took possession of the police car.
