The Aristocrat, a popular north side Indianapolis restaurant with a local following, has reopened 14 months after a devastating fire.

The fire in August 2011 caused $1.5 million in damage at the restaurant, which is at the intersection of College Ave. and 52nd St. Since then, the restaurant has been completely gutted and repaired. The old staff has been brought back and new employees are in training.

We're told the Aristocrat has the same "old feel," but some things have changed.

"We went green with as many things as we possibly could because it was an opportunity and we could. We changed the layout of the bar. We made the bar bigger, but we left the booths because we knew people loved those," said Melissa Uhte, general manager.

The Aristocrat is also now serving breakfast starting at 8:00 am.

There have been several additions to the neighborhood in recent years, including Taste Café on College Ave. just south of 52nd. A little further south at 49th St., Recess, the Sinking Ship and Upland Brewery Tasting Room are also attracting new visitors.
