INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) — IndyCar racing legend A.J. Foyt checked something off his IMS bucket list Saturday.
He checked out the Red Bull Air Race and met pilot Kirby Chambliss. Foyt will be the grand marshal of the race Sunday.
Foyt and Chambliss are both native Texans. Foyt, a four-time Indy 500 winner, has long wanted to see the Red Bull Air Race, but before this weekend, he had never been able to make it.
While both events involve some very fast racing, Foyt said there's obviously one huge difference in the two.
"They're up in the air and we're down on the ground," he said. "You've got to be pretty brave (to drive IndyCar), and you've got to be pretty brave to fly these, too."
Practice and qualifying wrapped Saturday at IMS. The big race is Sunday Afternoon. Gates open at 10 a.m.
