INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - A local jeweler has renovated an old building off Massachusetts Avenue in downtown Indianapolis.

Nick Blum has been designing watches since he was in high school in northern Indiana. His new boutique watch store, BlumLux, is headquartered in a building that's over 100 years old.

The building at 740 E. North Street, has been boarded up for 30 years. Blum says he can date the building's origins back as far as the early 1890s.

He's moving the headquarters of his business from Broad Ripple to the new downtown location.

"This is the place to be! This is where all the millennials are at. I'm a millennial. You know, we just gravitate toward this area," Blum said.

The store has a boutique atmosphere, where customers can get a drink while checking out the jewelry.

"It's what I would want if I was in your shoes. I want the experience. I don't want to be behind a counter, I want something that's comfortable and I want to be able to trust who I'm with," Blum said. "Being a jeweler, it's all about trust for the client. You know, if you're coming in to buy an engagement ring, don't you want to feel comfortable?"

Even though making an important (and pricey) purchase such as an engagement ring might seem a little risky after a couple drinks, Blum says it helps.

"Men are naturally intimidated when it comes to diamonds," he said. "They don't know a lot and, as men, we want to know everything and think that we do, so we make it easy for them."
