INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) — For the second time in 2018, lunch and dinner are on sale at dozens of restaurants and you don't even need a coupon, nor do you have to sign up for anything.
The inaugural Savor Downtown starts Monday, Feb. 19 and runs through Sunday, March 4.
If it seems like we just had a dining special around Indianapolis, you would be correct — a separate event called Devour Indy wrapped up on February 4.
Here's why it may sound a little confusing: The two-year old Devour Indy is a merger of events like Devour Downtown and Northside Nights, happening as one larger event across the city once in the winter and once in the summer. It is organized by the Indiana Restaurant and Lodging Association. Devour Downtown started in 2005 as a way to lure people to eat downtown after the holidays when business typically gets brisk.
Having Northside Nights and Chow Down Midtown — along with other events — all on different dates meant customers craving a deal would frequent that specific part of town for two weeks. Rolling it all into one event may ease confusion about dates, but it opens up competition across the city instead of one side of town.
Part of that is what sparked the creation of Savor Downtown. It is now the only downtown-specific restaurant savings event.
The deals offer savings of around 20 percent, and include lunch and dinner. Some restaurants also have a breakfast offering.
