23-year-old killed, 5 others injured in shooting on Indy's south side

The shooting happened in the 5900 block of Madison Avenue, near Edgewood Avenue, early Sunday, Nov. 5.

INDIANAPOLIS — Police are investigating after six people were shot, one fatally, on Indianapolis' south side early Sunday morning.

IMPD officers heard gunshots coming from the 5900 block of Madison Avenue, near Edgewood Avenue, around 1:15 a.m. Nov. 5. At the scene, they found five people who had been shot in a nearby parking lot.

Medics pronounced one man dead when they arrived. On Nov. 6, the Marion County Coroner's Office identified him as 23-year-old Samuel Ling.

Four other victims were transported to local hospitals. A 23-year-old woman and 25-year-old man were listed in critical condition, and 29- and 25-year-old men were described as "stable" by police.

On Monday, Nov. 6, IMPD said officers had responded later Sunday to Franciscan Health Indianapolis hospital for a delayed report of a person shot. The 22-year-old male victim was described as "stable," and detectives later determined he was shot during the Madison Avenue incident.

Several people in the area reported gunshots fired into their businesses. Almost every business in the strip mall had bullet holes or broken glass.

Businesses owners told 13News there was not only damage on the exterior, but also to the inside of their businesses. They also said this is a quiet area, and the shooting will have a lasting impact.

Detectives later learned there was some type of "disturbance" inside the GZ Restaraunt&Karaoke before the shooting and are working to determine if it connected to the shooting.

Several firearms were found on the scene.
