Indianapolis, Feb. 8 - Is a change of venue in the works for new Governor Mitch Daniels? After 45 years of residing in Marion County, the head of state may head north to Hamilton County.

On Monday the governor confirmed his purchase of a 1.2 acre lot in Carmel's gated Laurelwood community near 106th Street and Ditch Road. He also stated that within the next two years he and his wife intend to build a home there.

The move would put the governor within a stone's throw of Conseco co-founder Stephen Hilbert's $25 million mansion.

Daniels currently lives at his waterfront home in Geist, not the governor's mansion at 47th Street and Meridian.

According to our partners at The Indianapolis Star, the governor's office uncovered a report showing the residence requires $2.6 million in repairs even after a $1.2 million renovation.

According to The Star, the governor won't use taxpayer money to fix the mansion. But he's not planning to live there before the repairs are made.
