This summer marks the 75th anniversary of D-Day, when Allied forces landed in Normandy, France to battle German forces in one of the major turning points of World War II.
Steven Spielberg’s movie “Saving Private Ryan” will return to theaters for two days - June 2 and June 5 - to commemorate the June 6, 1944 landing.
Tom Hanks and Matt Damon starred in the movie noted for its realistic depiction of events during the battle.
The Library of Congress added "Saving Private Ryan" to its National Film Registry and veterans who took part in the actual invasion on Omaha Beach told Military Times the opening 27-minute sequence of film was so real, watching the movie was “like being back in battle.”
June also marks the 30th anniversary of the baseball celebration film "Field of Dreams" which returns to theaters June 16-18, and the 25th anniversary of "Forrest Gump," which won Oscars for Best Picture and Best Actor for Hanks in 1994.
"Gump" comes back to theaters June 23-25.
