Man arrested for shooting clerk at Muncie Village Pantry store

Just before 9 p.m. Monday, Muncie Police said a man fired shots into the Village Pantry on Morrison Road.

MUNCIE, Indiana — A suspect is in custody for a shooting that wounded a clerk at a Muncie convenience store Monday night.

Just before 9 p.m. Monday, Muncie Police said a man fired shots into the Village Pantry on Morrison Road. Investigators say the suspect then entered the store and shot the clerk working behind the counter. A probable cause affidavit shows investigators found four spent shell casings outside the store and at least one inside.

Police said the victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The probable case affidavit shows other employees at Village Pantry know the suspect as a regular customer and said he walks to the store regularly. One witness allegedly told police the suspect was at the store Sunday evening. That witness said the suspect complained to the same clerk that was shot Monday about shaking the energy drink he was going to purchase and opening his cigarettes before he got them.

The probable cause affidavit alleges the suspect told police he wasn't at the Village Pantry Monday, but said he was there when he complained to the clerk on Sunday.

Court documents show the suspect was taken into custody at a nearby apartment complex around 12:45 a.m. Tuesday. Police said the suspect lived at those apartments and was found armed, hiding inside his unit.

He faces preliminary felony charges of pointing a firearm, criminal recklessness and attempted murder.
