The crash happened around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday on East Washington Street near German Church Road.

INDIANAPOLIS — A pedestrian was struck and killed Wednesday evening on Indianapolis' east side, police said

The crash was reported around 9:30 p.m. April 3 in the 10700 block of East Washington Street, just west of German Church Road.

Police said a preliminary investigation indicates the driver of the vehicle "was traveling eastbound on East Washington Street and struck the pedestrian who was crossing the roadway northbound."

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The Marion County Coroner's Office identified the victim as 35-year-old Alexander Claytor Dabney.

The driver stayed at the scene, according to an IMPD spokesperson, and was taken for a blood draw, a requirement for drivers involved in crashes resulting in serious injury or death.

The investigation is ongoing.
