Pendleton officer shot, suspect wounded in gunfire outside Anderson gas station

The officer's injuries are described to 13News by police as being non-life-threatening. The suspect is in serious condition.

ANDERSON, Ind. — A Pendleton officer was shot during an incident in Anderson Tuesday.

The shooting happened outside a gas station at the 2500 block of Broadway Street, near West Cross Street, shortly after 2:30 p.m. May 7.

According to Anderson PD, a Pendleton officer was involved in a traffic stop on a suspect vehicle in a criminal investigation.

The Pendleton officer was detaining a female driver when police said a 44-year-old man in the car began firing. The officer returned fire, and the suspect got out of the car and fell to the ground, police said. 

The Pendleton officer was taken to a hospital in Anderson for minor, non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspect was taken to an Indianapolis hospital in serious condition.
