Longtime pastor, college president weighs in on Indianapolis violence

INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - A longtime Indianapolis pastor and college president is giving his thoughts on the violence we're seeing in the Circle City.

Dr. Charles Ware was honored for his work at Crossroads Bible College. He also started the organization called Grace Relations, working to ease racial tension in the community.

In his experience, Ware said the number one thing that can prevent someone from going down the wrong path is a mentor.

"I was surprised in the college, as president, some males, especially black males, latched on to me and I didn't know what this was all about. 'What are you latched on to me for, you're an adult?' But they wanted a father figure and I don't think we should run from that, but run to that and try to transform them for the grace of God," he said.

Ware said his father was killed when he was a teenager. That loss was filled by a basketball coach.
