KOKOMO, Ind. — Kokomo police are asking the public's help in locating additional suspects who allegedly broke into an FOP lodge and stole money donated to a fund established in honor of a fallen deputy.

Around 9 p.m. March 31, Kokomo Police Department officers responded a burglary alarm at Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #78 in the 100 block of West Markland Avenue, near South Main Street.

Officers found the building had been broken into, and located a 22-year-old Pennsylvania man hiding inside. He was arrested on a preliminary burglary charge, the department said.

(NOTE: 13News does not name suspects in cases until formal charges are filed by prosecutors.)

During an investigation, officers learned cash had been stolen from inside the FOP lodge. The cash had been collected as a donation to the Carl Koontz Fund, which had been established in honor of fallen Howard County sheriff's deputy Carl Koontz.

Police said the building also had "extensive interior damage."

Kokomo police said they believe two other people accompanied the suspect during the break-in and left the scene before police arrived.

The Kokomo Police Department is asking anyone with information on incident to call 765-456-7017. Tips can also be submitted anonymously to Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at 1-800-262-8477.
