Indy pastor keeping the faith despite break-ins

Two bold break-ins will not scare away the pastor of a church in a high crime area of Indianapolis.

Two bold break-ins will not scare away the pastor of a church in a high crime area of Indianapolis.

Right now, the ministers at Resurrection of Hope Church has no idea if the same burglar is responsible for a February 2016 burglary and a second on July 28.

The church is in what is considered one of Indy's hot spots for crime.

"We are planted, we are rooted, we are grounded, we are not going anywhere," said Pastor Iran Reed.

Despite the sanctuary being ransacked by a burglar, Pastor Reed plans to continue his ministry in the 12th and Rural Street area. Around 3 a.m. Thursday, the church's alarm system went off.

A burglar made a quick get away with their Yamaha Motif keyboard, valued around $3,000.

"The bible says thou shalt not steal...not judging, but we pray God supplies their needs," Reed said.

The burglar kicked in a back door at the church. Now, it's re-enforced with a couple of two-by-fours. What's worse, someone broke into the church last February and stole an expensive guitar.

But that has not stopped Reed from wanting to bring hope to the neighborhood. Especially since the area is considered a hot spot for crime.

"So by it being a hot spot, Lord willing, we can help with some of the situation in the area," Reed said. "So far we have been able to touch a few lives."

The burglaries come months apart as the church works to renovate their building. Right now, crews are putting on brand new siding. The ministry hopes to be part of the Rural Street neighborhood for a long time.

Reed wants the burglars to know despite taking from this ministry, he hopes to see them one day sitting in the congregation during worship service.

"They're welcome to come in anytime and worship," said Pastor Reed, "We don't hold no grudges. We may have been upset at that moment...a weeping man endures for a night, but joy comes in the morning."

Still, the church members hope someone in their new ministry neighborhood who saw something will say something.
