INDIANAPOLIS — An Indianapolis woman has been charged with battery to a public safety officer after allegedly stealing liquor and assaulting an off-duty officer at a northwest side grocery store.

According to court documents, on April 18 around 6:30 p.m., 29-year-old Llysha Moore, of Indianapolis, was reportedly stopped by an off-duty officer with the Marian University Police Department after the officer was told by security that she had activated the loss prevention alarm near the exit of a Kroger store located at 5025 W. 71st St.

The officer reportedly chased down Moore, yelling at her to stop. Court documents say Moore ignored the officer's commands and continued to walk away.

Eventually, the officer caught up with Moore and told her that she had set off the store's security alarm and that they needed to see her bag. Moore then allegedly turned around and walked toward her car. That's when, court documents say, the officer grabbed her bag, causing Moore to assault the officer in their chest.

When the officer attempted to use his radio to call for backup, the woman grabbed the radio and tried to remove it from the officer. When Moore was unsuccessful in removing the radio, she allegedly hit the officer on the right side of their face near their nose.

The officer reportedly pepper-sprayed Moore before she jumped into her car and fled the scene.

Court documents say Moore dropped an iPhone, taser, left behind a pair of shoes and a bottle of strawberry lemonade vodka during the altercation with the officer.

The off-duty Marian University officer informed IMPD northwest district officers of what had just taken place. Moore was then found behind an apartment complex in the 6800 block of Georgetown Road and arrested.

After Moore's arrest, the officer was treated by medics and began investigating surveillance video from the store. Court documents say that the surveillance video showed Moore allegedly picking up liquor bottles and placing them inside a blue and white bag before zipping it up. The recovered strawberry lemonade vodka was valued at $10.99.

Court documents allege Moore also stole a bottle of Epsolon Tequila valued at $28.99, but the bottle was not recovered during initial searches.

Moore was charged with battery with bodily injury to a public safety officer, a felony, and resisting law enforcement and theft, both misdemeanors.
