IMPD investigating deadly shooting on city's near north side

The incident happened around 12:30 a.m. Saturday in the 600 block of East 38th Street, near North College Avenue.

INDIANAPOLIS — IMPD is investigating a deadly shooting that happened early Saturday morning on the city's near north side.

Officers responded to a report of a person shot in the 600 block of East 38th Street, near North College Avenue, shortly after 12:30 a.m. May 4.

Police arrived and found a man outside of a home who had been shot.

Medics transported him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

On May 6, the Marion County Coroner's Office identified the victim as 28-year-old Chad Alan Cardy.

Police confirmed detectives detained two people and believe this was an isolated incident. However, around 6:45 p.m. that evening, IMPD released a statement saying both detained individuals were released pending further investigation following consultation with the Marion County Prosecutor's Office.
