BEECH GROVE, Ind — A 19-year-old has been arrested after detectives found nearly 800 fentanyl pills, 45 grams of heroin, and $23,000 in cash that they believe was drug money.

Detectives say they were tipped off that a man was in possession of and attempting to distribute "M30" fentanyl pills. According to police, all while he was on probation for a felony handgun charge.

The Marion County inmate database shows the man was arrested the same day he was released after serving a little more than four months in jail.

This comes a day after Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears told 13News he was going to be cracking down harder on drug dealers.

"If can trace or link a specific drug to the cause of death to the coroner's office that, that's what caused a person's death and we can trace that back to a specific dealer, we can file a level one felony. So, a level one felony carries a penalty of 20 to 40 years," Mears said.

According to police, the 19-year-old has several felony convictions from previous firearm offenses.

One of those offenses dates back to 2020 when he was convicted of criminal recklessness and carrying a handgun after he shot another teenager and injured a 19-year-old in Johnson County.

He served less than two years in prison.
