DANVILLE, Ind. (WTHR) - A man from Hendricks County will spend more than 6 decades behind bars for killing his girlfriend's 4-year-old son in 2017.
Michael Atkinson was sentenced Monday to 65 years in prison shortly after being found guilty of murder.
He will get credit for the 2 years he served while awaiting trial.
Atkinson had been charged with aggravated battery and neglect of a dependent causing death.
Police responded to a home November 11 on a report of an unconscious child. The four-year-old boy was revived with CPR, but was placed on a ventilator at Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health due to the severity of his injuries.
The boy died two days later.
The Marion County Medical Examiner's Office declared the child's death a homicide caused by blunt force trauma.
