3 women indicted for bringing 112 pounds of drugs through Indianapolis International Airport

Police said the suspects brought the drugs on a flight to Indianapolis from Los Angeles.

INDIANAPOLIS — Three women are facing federal charges accused of transporting drugs, including methamphetamines, through the Indianapolis International Airport.

According to a criminal complaint, Latasha Weatherspoon, Marlene Richardson and Christina Enriquez were indicted March 21 with conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute and possession with intent to distribute.

"They were ultimately planning on distributing it in Louisville, Kentucky area so it was good interdiction that occurred," said Mike Gannon, assistant special agent in charge with the Drug Enforcement Administration.

The suspects took a Delta flight from Los Angeles to the Indianapolis International Airport.

They also had suitcases filled with four vacuum sealed bags of clothing, wrapped around additional bags of meth, said to equal 112 pounds.

"Just taking this amount of methamphetamines off the street is no question going to save lives," said Gannon.

The DEA began its investigation in October after receiving information from a confidential source detailing the suspects' plan.

After reviewing surveillance video from Indy's airport, agents followed the women to Bridgeport Road and U.S. 40, where the suspects rolled through a stop sign.

Indiana State Police caught up with them on U.S. 40.

Police said a K-9 officer smelled drugs and they were taken into custody.

"Never has there been a worse time in our country to be using drugs," said Gannon. "It's a very dangerous time and even here in Marion County of the last year.

There were 852 overdose deaths for 2022.

Gannon encourages people to be educated about the deadly effects of drugs.

"All people dealing drugs do is care about the money that they're making, and they don't care whose lives or families they're affecting," said Gannon.

The suspects are expected to appear in federal court Thursday.
