21-year-old man killed in shooting on Indy's northeast side

The incident happened around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 9100 block of East 38th Place, near North Post Road.

INDIANAPOLIS — IMPD is investigating a deadly shooting Tuesday afternoon on the city's northeast side.

Police responded to a report of a person shot in the 9100 block of East 38th Place, near North Post Road, around 1:30 p.m. April 9.

Officers arrived and found a man outside a car who had been shot. Medics pronounced him dead at the scene.

The Marion County Coroner's Office identified the victim as 21-year-old Mauro Quintero.

"People are just trying to work and live their lives like a normal person but they can't," one neighbor said.

Officers set a perimeter, but the suspect wasn't located. 

Police believe the suspect and victim knew each other and were in a car together when the man was shot. Officials have not shared information on a possible motive.

"It is a difficult afternoon for this community and our community of Indianapolis where a man has lost his life to gunfire," IMPD Lt. Shane Foley said. "We've got children and families out here who have to see this."
