16-year-old charged in deadly shooting on Indy's north side

The shooting happened around 2:15 p.m. Tuesday near West 79th Street and Harcourt Road.

INDIANAPOLIS — IMPD is investigating a deadly shooting that happened on the city's north side Tuesday afternoon.

Police responded to a report of a person shot near West 79th Street and Harcourt Road around 2:15 p.m. May 7.

Officers arrived and found a man who had been shot. An IMPD spokesperson initially said the man was in critical condition but later confirmed the man died from his injuries.

The Marion County Coroner's Office identified the victim as 34-year-old Lance Little.

Police confirmed SWAT officers detained a person of interest. Late Tuesday, a spokesperson said detectives arrested a 16-year-old male for his alleged role in this incident. 

The Marion County Prosecutor's Office charged the 16-year-old with murder and dangerous possession of a firearm.

According to court documents, a witness told police they saw a male shoot Little before running into a nearby apartment complex. A male matching the description of the suspect came out of an apartment, with apparent blood on his leg, after announcements were made. 

A gun was located inside the headboard of the suspect's bed in the apartment, according to court documents. 

There is no information about a possible motive at this time.
