Milano Inn closes its doors for the last time

A popular downtown restaurant officially closed its doors for the last time Saturday.

INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - A popular downtown restaurant officially closed its doors for the last time Saturday.

The Milano Inn served Indianapolis for more than 80 years. Saturday, they served customers one last time.

It wasn't a packed house, though. The owners decided to make it a more intimate affair and invited a small number of friends and family members to dine there for the occasion.

Tina LaGrotte has owned the restaurant with her mom and her sister since the 1980's. She says she'll miss the people but is looking forward to more personal and family time.

"When you own a restaurant, it's seven days a week. It's 24/7. And it's hard. It's really hard. And you know, you don't get to do a lot of stuff that your friends are doing and other people are doing and there wasn't a lot of traveling," LaGrotte said.

She told WTHR she plans on doing that traveling now and visiting her grandchildren a lot more.
