AT&T activates 5G in 12 cities including Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) — Beginning today, 5G will be available to some AT&T customers in the Indianapolis area.

There a total of 12 cities on the list which includes Atlanta, Charlotte, Dallas, Houston, Indianapolis, Jacksonville, Louisville, Oklahoma City, New Orleans, Raleigh, San Antonio and Waco.

“This is the first taste of the mobile 5G era,” said Andre Fuetsch, president, AT&T Labs and chief technology officer. “Being first, you can expect us to evolve very quickly. It’s early on the 5G journey and we’re ready to learn fast and continually iterate in the months ahead.”

AT&T will offer the US's only 5G mobile device beginning Dec. 21.

5G+ will be available in populated cities, but anyone outside of network coverage could access it through NETGEAR Nighthawk 5G Mobile Hotspot.

Nighthawk will be available starting next spring for $499 upfront and 15GB of data for $70 a month on a compatible plan and no annual commitment.
