INDIANAPOLIS — Meteorologist Matt Standridge joined the Live Doppler 13 Weather Team in February 2024. He is the Saturday and Sunday 6/11 p.m. forecaster, plus he visits schools with the 13 Weather Academy and helps forecast and tell weather stories throughout the week.

Matt is excited to be back home in Indiana. Growing up in Centerville, Indiana, he loved looking west over the cornfield by his house, watching everything the weather had to throw at Wayne County. From storms racing in, to snowstorms covering the cut corn stalks, to swarms of lightning bugs buzzing in the early summer humidity, he fell in love with everything weather. He tuned in every morning to catch the forecast on WTHR before school. From then on, he wanted to be a meteorologist too, hopefully at Channel 13. After graduating as an Eli Lilly Scholar from Centerville, Matt earned his B.S. in atmospheric science from Valparaiso University in 2017.

After college, Matt first worked for the government on a hail research project in North Dakota, learning the latest in hail forecasting and tracking. Once the summer hail season wrapped up, he joined our TEGNA sister station KFSM-TV in eastern Oklahoma and western Arkansas for seven years, tracking tornadoes in "Tornado Alley." Some of the Standridge family also lives in that area. After four years, Matt became the chief meteorologist at KFSM-TV.

In winter of 2024, TEGNA promoted Matt to WTHR-TV, and he has loved being back here ever since, especially working alongside meteorologists he has looked up to for years.

Favorite type of weather? It's a tie between snow and thunderstorms. Snow can be a giant sandbox to build anything you want! But there is something electrifying about storms, literally! Matt is passionate about severe weather and tracking storms to make sure families are safe and informed. On the quiet days, Matt loves to hike, go to the lake and chase waterfalls! If you want to share your weather photos and videos with Matt, or suggest an idea on a place to check out, be sure to connect with him!

Fun fact, if you think you see Matt walking downtown, make sure you do a double take... His twin brother also lives in Indianapolis.

Indiana is home. Joining the weather team at WTHR has been a dream come true for him.
