INDIANAPOLIS — Chelsea Stevens was born and raised on the south side of Indianapolis. Growing up, she was scared of the Midwest thunderstorms. As she got older, she wanted to face her fears, and she started learning what caused thunder, lightning and tornadoes, and grew to love storms.

After graduating from Center Grove High School in 2012, she went to Indiana University. She initially studied to become a nurse, but quickly realized she wanted to follow her true passion: weather.

In 2014, she transferred to Ball State University to study meteorology. With one of her classes, she storm-chased across the Great Plains. She saw multiple tornadoes in one day in the eastern plains of Colorado.

At both universities, she joined the cheerleading teams. During her last year of college, she coached Center Grove’s freshman cheerleading team.

She started her career at WGEM in Quincy, Illinois, for three years. She moved to Kentucky to work at WTVQ in Lexington, Kentucky. Her previous station before moving to Indy was our sister station, WHAS11, in Louisville, Kentucky.

Chelsea and her husband are glad to be back home in Indiana and closer to their families.
