While all residents evacuated the complex prior to firefighters arriving on scene, many were displaced from the fire Monday afternoon.

INDIANAPOLIS — Eighteen people were displaced, two residents were hurt and two firefighters suffered injuries after a fire broke out at the Buffalo Creek Apartments on the south side of Indianapolis Monday afternoon.

Sixteen Indianapolis Fire Department units were dispatched to the 600 block of Buffalo Club Drive, near State Road 135 and County Line Road, on multiple reports of a fire around 12:20 p.m. Feb. 5

The fire was under control shortly after 1 p.m., according to IFD. However, two residents were injured in the fire: one person was checked out on scene and released, but another resident suffering from "slight" injuries was transported to Community Hospital South.

Everyone who was home when that fire broke out had evacuated prior to firefighters' arrival, according to IFD.

One firefighter suffered a heat-related injury, while another was hurt from ceiling debris impact, and medics transported both firefighters to Methodist Hospital. Their conditions are said to be stable.

IFD Victims Assistance is now reportedly working with Red Cross and apartment management to find shelter for the 18 people living in 12 affected units.
