Inmate found dead at Henry County Jail

HENRY COUNTY, Ind. — An investigation is underway after a Henry County Jail inmate was found dead in a cell early Friday morning.

Heather Goodman, 40, of Anderson was being held at the Henry County Jail in a medical cell with no other inmates, according to the Henry County Sheriff.  

Goodman seen laying down in her bed at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Thursday evening after "normal activity", according to authorities. When jail staff entered Goodman's cell to serve breakfast around 5:05 a.m., they noticed she appeared deceased and failed to respond.

The jail reported that EMS was notified, but Goodman was later pronounced dead at the scene.

The Henry County Major Incident Team, which includes members of the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, New Castle Police Department, and Indiana State Police were asked to investigate the death. 

There is reportedly no evidence of foul play. The Henry County Coroner will be scheduling an autopsy. 


The investigation ongoing and notification to family has been made, according to police.
