For the 36th time this year Indianapolis hit 90° which ties 1940 and 2002 for the 16th most on record since 2002. We're expecting at least two more 90° days before the weekend.

Spotty downpours have emerged within the heat today but many places stay dry and these will be quick-moving. Any rain quickly diminishes near/after sunset and mild night in the 60s can be expected.

Temperatures return to the 90s Wednesday afternoon with heat indices in the low/mid 90s. Isolated downpours and/or storms may pop in the peak heating hours between 2pm and 7pm.

The heat peaks-out Thursday afternoon with highs in the lower/mid 90s before a cold front arrives Friday. It should be noted that most of Central Indiana remains on the hot, humid side of this front Friday... meaning another day in the mid/upper 80s. Based on the timing of the front arriving during peak heat, ample low-level moisture, and sufficient wind shear... some of the storms may produce severe wind and/or hail. We'll updated timing/coverage in the days ahead.

This front brings much cooler air for the weekend. Model output today places the front along the Ohio River. Providing that plays out, we could see a mainly dry weekend with highs near 70. For now we're keeping low odds of rain, but adjustments may be needed between now and then.

The pattern should become rather active next week as a likely transition to much colder than average temperatures seems likely to finish September and open October. Stay tuned - Sean Ash
