The forecast of a rainy day is certainly playing-out over Central Indiana and the wetness continues the next 36 hours.

This is all apart of a winter storm system that looks to drop a band of heavy snow just to the north of the WTHR viewing area. However, that doesn't mean we'll completely miss-out on snow and a decent punch of cold for late February mid to latter of this week.

For now... expect showers and drizzle for school pick-up and the evening commute along with temperatures creeping into the 40s. Areas of low visibility are possible tonight as fog may develop within the saturated air.

Rain may mix with snow early Wednesday morning before a transition to all snow that will be wind-whipped on the backside of the winter storm. A light accumulation is possible around the metro area by Thursday morning with better odds of accumulation north and northwest of the metro area.

Be advised if you're going to be traveling around the Michiana border, Lower Michigan, Chicagoland, and southern Wisconsin Tuesday into Thursday morning.... with the potential of several inches of heavy, wet snow possible if not likely.

Temperatures drop from near freezing Wednesday afternoon to near 20° Thursday morning and sets the stage for three straight days of temperatures 10°-15° below average. This equates to lows in the teens, single digit wind chills, and highs near freezing Thursday-Saturday.

In addition, scattered flurries/snow showers can occur at anytime within the cold air mass. The chill eases Sunday and Central Indiana opens the first week of March with above average temperatures.
