Forecast updated at Jan 17th, 2019 - 7:59pm (EST)

The Saturday winter storm that everyone has been talking about all week is still in the forecast. Now that the storm is over land, we are starting to get better data. Our initial snowfall potential map has 5-8+ inches of snow for most of central Indiana. We are forecasting a lower snowfall potential across the southern third of the state, due to mixing. This is a good thing to keep in mind, as we continue to track this developing winter storm. Anywhere the snow mixes with sleet or rain, the snow totals will be significantly lower. We will continue to monitor new data and keep you updated. We will update our map and adjust that heavy snow potential area as needed. Where it stays all snow and just north of that mix area, snowfall potential will be 8"+.

If you don't like to drive in the snow and wintry mess, Friday will be your day. The timing of the winter storm for central Indiana is from about 5am Saturday to 5am Sunday.

Even if you end up on the lighter side of the snow this weekend, it will be dangerously cold and windy on the back side of this storm. This will create icy conditions and blowing and drifting snow. The gusty winds will begin midday Saturday, with the temperature drop to follow on Sunday. We are forecasting temperatures to fall below zero Sunday night into Monday morning. Wind chills will be -30 to -20. Please remember your pets, when it gets this cold. Your home will need some extra attention too.
